Lymphatic Drainage

Facial puffiness? Dull complexion? Feeling fatigued? We have the solution. At Glo Aesthetics and Hydration our Registered Nurses are certified in lymphatic drainage for clients seeking treatment for various conditions to help you look and feel your best.

What is the Lymph System?

Our lymph system is one that gets quite overlooked when thinking about wellness, and yet it plays a large role in the cleansing of our bodies. It is our body’s waste management system and performs the vital functions such as cleaning and removing waste from interstitial spaces of the body and aids in strengthening immunity. Our lymph carries waste products, white blood cells, and bacteria/pathogens.

Our Lymphatic system does not have its own pump (like the circulatory system has the heart) so lymph is mobilized within the body via movement/exercise, deep breathing, hydration, and manual therapies. 70% of lymphatic system is superficial and exercise only moves 30% of lymph, therefore manual lymphatic therapy and deep breathing are most effective in moving the lymph!

What can I expect from Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual lymphatic drainage involves a gentle, light touch. Our Registered nurses are certified with the Vodder method, which moves the lymph in the direction of the lymph flow in gentle, circular movements with only about 5 grams of pressure. While some lymphatic massage techniques are used in addition to the Vodder method, the main goal of this technique is lymph movement and should not be mistaken for a massage. This technique is relaxing and some clients will even fall asleep. Prior to lymphatic drainage, please hydrate well for several days before your appointment.

Who Should get Lymphatic Drainage?

One full body lymphatic drainage treatment can move two liters of lymph in one hour! Those who can greatly benefit are those with:

  • general stress and fatigue

  • liposuction/cosmetic procedures

  • facial puffiness

  • pending cosmetic surgery (to do prior to procedure, cleans lymph and aids in faster healing)

  • mild lymphedema (stage 0-1)

  • chronic fatigue

  •
fibromyalgia

  • chronic pain

  •
sleeping disorders

Certain health conditions will require further consultation, so please do not hesitate to call and ask. In particular, those with a history of blood clots, kidney function issues/infection, congestive heart failure, and spleen or liver dysfunction may have contraindications regarding receiving lymphatic drainage.

Facial Lymphatic Drainage

Using the Vodder method, this technique will drain the lymph on the face and neck. Helps drain toxins from your skin, improving the appearance of the skin, and decreasing puffiness. This procedure is also ideal prior to any cosmetic surgery (enhances healing), and after procedures to decrease puffiness. Please speak to the nurse about your needs prior to scheduling. 20 minutes.

Add on to any service $15
Stand-alone service $25

Whole Body Lymphatic Drainage $65

Work will be performed on head/neck, arms, abdomen and legs. Highly recommended for pre-surgical procedures (tummy tuck, liposuction etc.) Please dress in loose clothing (short sleeve shirts and loose shorts). 60 minutes.

Post Surgical (Maker-Over) Lymphatic Drainage $50

Please obtain clearance from your surgical team prior to scheduling. 30 minutes.

Lymphatic Drainage and Craniosacral Healing $115

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy, or CST, is a gentle, hands-on form of body therapy that evaluates and enhances the craniosacral system which consists of the fluids and membranes that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch, practitioners can release restrictions in the craniosacral system which can assist the function of the central nervous system. In addition, lymphatic drainage of the face and neck will be done. This added process helps with:

  • Diminished sinus headaches/infections

  • Decreased inflammation (also decreases puffiness of your face)

  • Diminished inner ear challenges including infections

  • Better movement (decreases neck and shoulder muscular tension)

  • Improved recovery

  • Improved cognition

  • Improved memory

  • Improved nervous system function

Craniosacral therapy can help with:

  • Stress and tension

  • Post-Migraine care

  • Headaches

  • Temporo-mandibular joint syndrome (TMJ)

  • Fascial and jaw challenges (Vertigo, Tinnitus, Misalignments)

  • Fibromyalgia

  • PTSD

  • General health maintenance

  • Post-Concussion Syndrome

  • Anxiety and depression

What to expect during a Craniosacral Therapy Session

Craniosacral Therapy does not involve any spinal manipulations or adjustments but focuses on the use of light-touch therapy. Before your session you and your practitioner will get acquainted and discuss the reasons for your visit and go over medical history. Your practitioner will answer any of your questions and concerns. During the session you will mostly be lying on your back and you will be fully clothed. Using light touch, your cranial rhythm will be evaluated and light touch used to release tension. Your experience of the session may vary from session to session. Some clients may feel a physical release of tension, and some may feel an emotional release. The sessions are above all, very relaxing.

What to expect After a Craniosacral Therapy Session

Just as each individual experiences CST sessions differently, the results can be diverse as well. You may leave in such a relaxed state that you feel like sleeping for hours. Or you may leave full of boundless energy. You may feel a decrease in pain or an increase in function immediately after the session, or the effects may develop gradually over the next few days. Since CST helps the body resume its natural healing processes, it’s common for your improvements to continue weeks after the session.

Are There Any Conditions That Shouldn’t Be Addressed With Craniosacral Therapy?

There are a few situations in which CST is not recommended. They include any condition in which slight variations in intracranial pressure would cause instability, such as acute aneurysm, recent skull fracture, and cerebral hemorrhage or other severe bleeding disorder. If you have any questions about whether these situations apply to you, seek the advice of your physician before receiving a CST session.

Craniosacral Healing $65

Myofascial Release

Fascia is a densely woven, specialized system of the body that covers and connects muscles, bones, nerves, organs, and spinal cord. It can be thought of as a stocking for our bodies that is one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. Each part of the body is connected to every other part by the fascia.

Fascia plays an important role in the support and function of our bodies, since it surrounds and attaches to all structures. When fascia is healthy, it is relaxed and can stretch and move without restriction. When the body experiences physical trauma (falls, surgery, habitual poor posture), emotional trauma, scarring, or inflammation, the fascia loses its pliability.  When fascia becomes tight and restricted it becomes a source of tension to the rest of the body, producing many symptoms including pain, headaches, immobility, and lack of flexibility and stability.

Myofascial release is a safe and gentle hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain (physical and emotional) and restore motion. For emotional trauma, myofascial release is provided in a safe, non-judgmental environment in which suppressed feelings can be expressed and released.

Myofascial release can help relieve a variety of conditions including:

  • Back/Neck Pain

  • Headaches/Migraines

  • Chronic Pain

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Chronic Fatigue

  • Scoliosis

  • Sports injuries

  • Emotional trauma
